Dr. Julio Friedmann is the CEO of Carbon Wrangler, LLC, and a Senior Research Scholar at the Center for Global Clean Energy Policy at Columbia University. He recently served as Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Office of Fossil Energy at the Department of Energy. He was responsible for DOE’s R&D program in advanced fossil energy systems, carbon capture, and storage (CCS), CO2 utilization, and clean coal deployment. His expertise includes Large-Scale Carbon Management, CO2 removal, CO2 recycling, Oil and Gas systems, international engagements in clean fossil energy, and inter-agency engagements within the US government. He has also held positions at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, including Senior Advisor for Energy Innovation and Chief Energy Technologist, is a Distinguished Associate at the Energy Futures Initiative, and serves as a special advisor to Total SA and the Global CCS Institute. He was recently named as a Senior Fellow to the Breakthrough Institute and a Stanford Precourt Scholar.
Dr. Friedmann is one of the most widely known and authoritative experts in the U.S. on carbon removal (CO2 drawdown from the air and oceans), CO2 conversion and use (carbon-to-value), and carbon capture and sequestration. His expertise includes technology, policy, and operations. In addition to close partnerships with many private companies and NGOs, Julio has worked with the U.S. State Department, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and the U.S. Treasury.
Dr. Friedmann received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), followed by a Ph.D. in Geology at the University of Southern California. He worked for five years as a senior research scientist at ExxonMobil, then as a research scientist at the University of Maryland.
Vicki Hollub

DVicki Hollub is President and Chief Executive Officer of Occidental Petroleum. She has been a member of Occidental’s Board of Directors since 2015. Ms. Hollub joined Occidental more than 30 years ago and has held a variety of management and technical positions with responsibilities on three continents, including roles in the United States, Russia, Venezuela and Ecuador. Most recently, she served as Occidental’s President and Chief Operating Officer, overseeing the company’s oil and gas, chemical and midstream operations.
Ms. Hollub previously was Senior Executive Vice President, Occidental Petroleum Corporation, and President, Oxy Oil and Gas, where she was responsible for operations in the U.S., the Middle East region and Latin America. Prior to that, she held a variety of leadership positions, including Executive Vice President, Occidental, and President, Oxy Oil and Gas, Americas; Vice President, Occidental, and Executive Vice President, U.S. Operations, Oxy Oil and Gas; Executive Vice President, California Operations; and President and General Manager of the company’s Permian Basin operations. Ms. Hollub started her career at Cities Service, which was acquired by Occidental.
Ms. Hollub serves on the boards of the American Petroleum Institute, Khalifa University for Science and Technology in Abu Dhabi, and Lockheed Martin. She is the U.S. chair for the U.S.-Colombia Business Council. A graduate of the University of Alabama, Ms. Hollub holds a Bachelor of Science in Mineral Engineering. She was inducted into the University of Alabama College of Engineering 2016 class of Distinguished Engineering Fellows.
David Hone

David Hone works for Shell International Ltd. and is the Chief Climate Change Adviser in the Shell Scenarios Team. He joined Shell in 1980 after graduating as a Chemical Engineer from the University of Adelaide in Australia. He has worked in refinery technology, oil trading and shipping areas for Shell. David is a board member of the International Emissions Trading Association (IETA), was Chairman of IETA from 2011-2013 and is a board member of C2ES in Washington and GCCSI in Melbourne. David is a regular climate blogger and is the author of a current book on climate change, ‘Putting the Genie Back: Solving the Climate and Energy Dilemma’.
Jim Skea

Jim Skea has research interests in energy, climate change and technological innovation. He has been a Professor of Sustainable Energy at Imperial College since 2009, and was RCUK Energy Strategy Fellow from 2012-2017. He was Research Director of the UK Energy Research Centre 2004-12, Director of the Policy Studies Institute 1998-2004, and President of the UK Energy Institute 2015-2017.
Jim has operated at the interface between research, policy-making and business throughout his career. He is also a member of the UK Committee on Climate Change and Co-Chair of IPCC Working Group III for the 6th assessment cycle. He was awarded a CBE for services to sustainable energy in 2013 and an OBE for services to sustainable transport in 2004.

Brad joined the Institute as CEO in August 2011, bringing extensive knowledge and experience on Australian and international energy and climate policy issues. Prior to the Institute, Brad spent almost eight years as CEO of the Energy Supply Association of Australia, steering the organisation through a period of significant transformation while representing members on a wide range of energy market and climate change policy issues. During much of this time he chaired the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation’s (CSIRO) Energy and Transport Sector Advisory Council.
Brad’s earlier career was in the Australian Public Service, working across a range of portfolios culminating in direct involvement at the senior executive level with the development, implementation and subsequent review and improvement of Australia's national electricity and domestic natural gas markets. Brad graduated with a BA (Administration) from the University of Canberra and in 2009 studied the economics of climate change at Cambridge University as a British Council Chevening Fellow. In early 2018 Brad was appointed to the UK Government’s CCUS Council and has also recently joined the Special Advisory Group to the Board of the Norwegian CCS Research Centre.

Trude Sundset is CEO of Gassnova. She has 30 years business experience, with key areas within energy, environment and climate issues. She has had several years of management experience including corporate and line management, R&D management, as well as business development and oil/gas field development. Sundset has experience from Boards of organisations including commercial businesses, experience from international collaboration and has built a broad network in various international organisations. Among these, Sundset was Member of Advisory Council in ZEP (European Union’s platform for Zero Emissions Fossil Fuel Power Plants united to support CO2 Capture and Storage. She also served as Chairman of Technical Group of the Carbon Sequestration Leadership Forum (2005-2008) on behalf of Norway. In addition, she was Member of Executive Committee of IEA GHG R&D (International Energy Agency Greenhouse Gas Research& Development). For more than 15 years she was Chairman of the Board of the foundation FIRST Scandinavia. Being part of building this organisation from the start, now a sound organisation as the key player in Norway on developing and running science programs for young people. Sundset holds a Master of Technology, Physical Chemistry, from Norwegian University of Science and Technology, NTNU, Trondheim.
Jiro Tanaka

Mr. Jiro Tanaka joined Japan CCS in June 2016. Since July 2016, he has served as General Manager of the International Relations Dept. which was newly established to enhance the international activities of Japan CCS.
Prior to this, he was involved in the management of various international projects at the Asia-Oceania Project Division and the International Oil & Gas Division of Japan Petroleum Exploration Co. Ltd. (JAPEX), a leading Japanese oil & gas exploration and production company. Jiro joined JAPEX in April 1980 after receiving a B.S. degree from the University of Tokyo.
Fiona Wild

Fiona has almost 20 years’ experience in multinational oil and gas and resources companies, ranging from frontline operational management to corporate strategic development across a variety of countries and businesses. Born in Liverpool, UK, she holds a degree and PhD in Chemistry from the University of Edinburgh. Her PhD focused on using coral skeletons as natural indicators of climate change.
She began her career with oil and gas major BP in Aberdeen, UK. She worked for several years in various operational roles in both the upstream exploration and downstream refining businesses, before taking a corporate policy role at BP's headquarters in London. Moving to Australia with BP in 2002, she worked in downstream operations and then spent five years’ in the External Affairs team in Melbourne, focusing on national and international climate change policy development and advocacy. In this role, she gained extensive experience in carbon capture and storage (CCS) project and policy development, supporting BP’s Hydrogen Energy business as it investigated opportunities to develop global CCS projects
She joined BHP Billiton in 2010 as Senior Manager, Environment and was successfully appointed to the role of Vice President, Environment and Climate Change in February 2013. In these roles, she was accountable for developing and maintaining global performance requirements in water, land and biodiversity and greenhouse gas emissions management. She advised the Board and senior management on emerging environmental and climate change trends and represented BHP Billiton in engagements with both national and international stakeholders, including NGOs, academics, industry associations, governments and investors.
In 2015, she led a review of BHP Billiton’s approach to climate change to develop an updated Company position and strategy. This includes activities in the areas of mitigation, adaptation, portfolio evaluation, stakeholder engagement and low emissions technology. As part of this strategy, she developed BHP Billiton’s Climate Change Portfolio Analysis report, an industry-leading analysis that describes the impact of both an orderly and a rapid transition to a low carbon future on the valuation of the company’s portfolio.
In December 2015, she was appointed to the Financial Stability Board’s Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures, reporting to the G20. The Task Force released its report in December 2016 at www.fsb-tcfd.org. In April 2016, she was appointed to a new role as Vice President, Sustainability and Climate Change. In this broader role, she leads the design and implementation of BHP Billiton’s approach to all sustainability-related issues, including climate change, environment, community and social policy.
Fiona also holds several Board positions, including as a Director of IETA, which aims to build international policy and market frameworks for reducing emissions at lowest cost, and CO2CRC, one of the world's leading collaborative research organisations focused on CCS. She is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Dr Liang is the Secretary General and co-founder of UK-China (Guangdong) CCUS Centre, an expert panel member in Chinese governments climate finance policy, PI of the World Banks Network Carbon Market (China) and International Lead of Asian Development Banks CCS Centre of Excellence (Guangdong) project. Dr Liang has been leading on a total of GBP 2.15 million research grant and the GBP 20 million Haifeng carbon capture pilot project. Dr Liang has rich experience in asset management and investment advisory. Dr Liang is also a Chartered Financial Analyst holder and Financial Risk Manager.

In 2014, he was appointed Assistant to the International President and Assistant Director of Construction Sector Operations, Canada. Channon currently sits on the Executive Board of the Building and Construction Trades Council of Canada. Jarad Daniels

Mr. Jarad Daniels leads the Office of Clean Coal and Carbon Management within the Department of Energy’s Office of Fossil Energy, where he is responsible for overseeing research, development, and demonstration of advanced coal and gas-based power systems. This portfolio includes domestic programs and international engagement conducted in close collaboration with industry, universities, and other research organizations.
Mr. Daniels has over twenty years of experience with the U.S. Department of Energy, managing domestic energy programs and working in several national laboratories and offices throughout the United States. His expertise includes domestic and global energy and environmental technologies, policies, and programs. Earlier management responsibilities included technology development programs for advanced power systems, environmental management, and nuclear complex remediation. Prior professional experience includes life cycle analysis, process engineering and materials science.
Mr. Daniels received a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Kansas State University, and a Master of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley.

As CEO of OGCI Climate Investments, Dr. Pratima Rangarajan is responsible for the delivery of the OGCI Climate Investments mission – creating positive outcomes in the reduction of climate change. Before joining OGCI Climate Investments, Pratima was the General Manager for GE's Onshore Wind Product Line and the General Manager for GE's Energy Storage startup. She had previously held the role of Deputy Chief Technology Officer and Senior Vice President, Emerging Technology and Research at Vestas Wind Systems. Pratima has a PhD in chemical engineering from Princeton University and a BS in chemical engineering from MIT.

While pursuing his Masters Degree in Statistics at the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur, Aniruddha co-founded Carbon Clean Solutions in the year 2009. Selected as one of the Top 50 Brightest Young Climate Leaders, he was a part of the youth delegation to COP15 and COP/MOP5 (Kyoto Protocol), held in Copenhagen, Denmark, in the fall of 2009 (December 7th to 18th). He has also been selected as one of the top 27 entrepreneurs working on accelerated commercialization of Technology & Innovation by Accelerator India. Currently working towards tying partnerships for ‘Carbon capture and reuse/sequestration’, he was invited to the esteemed World Economic Forum’s India summit in 2011. Aniruddha works closely on all policy issues related to CCS and also looks into hiring talent for Carbon Clean Solutions.

Dr Fatih Birol has served as Executive Director of the IEA since September 2015. Under his leadership, the IEA has undertaken its first comprehensive modernisation programme since the creation of the Agency in 1974. Prior to his nomination as Executive Director, Dr Birol spent 20 years as a staff member at the Agency, serving most recently as Chief Economist. He has been named by Forbes Magazine as one of the most influential people on the world’s energy scene and was recognised by the Financial Times as energy personality of the year in 2017. He is the founder and chair of the IEA Energy Business Council, one of the most active industry advisory groups in global energy. He also chairs the World Economic Forum’s (Davos) Energy Advisory Board and serves on the UN Secretary-General’s Advisory Board on ‘Sustainable Energy for All’.
